On March 23, the University of Economics and Business – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (UEB – VNU) announced four new specializations within its Bachelor’s degree program in Economics: Political Economy and Diplomacy; Economic Management; Digital Economy and Governance; and Media and Journalism Economics. With an interdisciplinary, multi-skill training approach, UEB affirms that these new specializations will supply the market with high-quality human resources.
Students Have the Right to Choose Courses and Be Mentored by Experts and Leaders
In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Trúc Lê, Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of the University Council, emphasized that the university’s mission is to provide society with high-quality human resources, oriented toward expertise and leadership in the fields of economics, management, and research, while also transferring research outcomes to the Government, organizations, businesses, and the broader community.
In the context of digital transformation and rapid technological advancement, the University of Economics and Business always prioritizes updating and innovating its training programs to equip students with the adaptability required to meet the ever-changing demands of the labor market.
The introduction of four new specializations—Political Economy and Diplomacy; Economic Management; Digital Economy and Governance; and Media and Journalism Economics—reflects the university’s strong commitment to educational innovation and quality enhancement, contributing to the development of a highly skilled workforce for society.

At the ceremony, scientists who are leaders and lecturers from the Faculty of Political Economy, University of Economics and Business, introduced in detail the four new specializations. Specifically: Political Economy and Diplomacy is a specialization that provides in-depth knowledge of global political economy, international relations governance, and policy planning. Students in this specialization will be equipped with skills in geopolitical risk analysis, conflict resolution, and international economic negotiation.
The Media and Journalism Economics specialization helps students understand the interaction between economics and the media industry, while equipping them with skills in media data analysis and in-depth content development. Graduates of this specialization can take on roles as media analysts, economic editors, or digital content developers.
The Digital Economy and Governance specialization trains students in managing and utilizing big data, developing digital products, and managing business in a digitalized environment. Students will gain a firm grasp of digital economy models and the application of technology in enterprise management.
The Economic Management specialization provides knowledge in management and economic policy planning, helping students develop strategic thinking and data-driven decision-making skills. Students can work in government agencies, private enterprises, or research organizations to analyze and optimize economic policies.

Sharing about the “special” points in the training program for the new specializations, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Trúc Lê, Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of the University Council, emphasized that during the training process, students will be equipped with various skills, such as presentation skills, analytical skills, diplomacy skills, conflict resolution skills, negotiation skills, and more.
Additionally, students have the right to choose the courses they are passionate about. The university will collaborate to bring in lecturers who are entrepreneurs, experts, and leaders from both public and private organizations. These conditions will help students in the future to work in many different fields.
“The goal of the university is not simply to train students to find jobs after graduation, but to help them become elites in their fields, with the ability to integrate deeply into the world; to use Heart – Virtue – Intelligence – Talent to serve the nation,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Trúc Lê emphasized.

At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trần Đức Hiệp, Head of the Faculty of Political Economy, committed that the Bachelor’s degree program in Economics at the University of Economics and Business will continue to enhance both academic rigor and practical relevance to meet the needs of parents, students, and, especially, the trends of the era. He affirmed the university’s responsibility in training high-quality labor forces, contributing to the nation’s era of growth and expansion.
“Immersing” students in a real-world environment
During the discussion at the ceremony, delegates, including scientists, entrepreneurs, and leaders from several localities, stated that in addition to focusing on specialized training programs, the University of Economics and Business should continue to strengthen partnerships, collaborations, and expand relationships with businesses, localities, and organizations to “immerse” students in a practical environment. This is because businesses today are not interested in students who lack experience and have not participated in any professional work environment during their university years.

According to Nguyễn Hồng Sơn, Chairman of the Board and CEO of OSB Group, OSB is a company that can be considered early in the field of e-commerce. To date, OSB has approximately 2,000 businesses using services on its digital platform. Mr. Sơn highly appreciates the university’s pioneering efforts in announcing specializations that align well with current trends and provide a wide range of skills, particularly data analysis skills, which are essential and important.
Currently, businesses and organizations base their management on numbers, and the ability to analyze data is crucial to solving economic problems. Accurate data analysis can help companies make the best decisions for production and business.
“OSB is more than willing to support the internship of students, and we even offer paid internships to motivate students to contribute. We are looking forward to the new specializations of the university creating a high-quality workforce with strong skills, real-world experience, and the ability to contribute more to society,” Mr. Nguyễn Hồng Sơn expressed.

From a local perspective, Lê Đức Giang, Vice Chairman of Thanh Hóa Provincial People’s Committee, stated that the four new specializations at the University of Economics and Business demonstrate the university’s leadership and the faculty’s vision, as well as their foresight and relevance to current trends.
Graduates of these specializations will be able to work in both the public and private sectors. Thanh Hóa is a dynamic locality in need of high-quality human resources. “I hope that students graduating from the Economics programs at the University of Economics and Business will be ‘well-grounded in knowledge and strong in skills’ and will be able to establish themselves and build careers here in Thanh Hóa. I also wish that the university continues to enhance cooperation with localities, organizations, and businesses to increase practical experience for students and provide high-quality human resources to localities and organizations,” he expressed.

“The Ministry of Education and Training fully supports the training direction of universities towards multi-disciplinary approaches and always supports pioneering fields and those that align with current trends. We hope that the university will invest deeply in the development of lectures and curricula to meet the needs of students and businesses, ensuring the quality of graduates in the era of digital transformation and the digital economy, in line with the direction of the Party and the State,” said Đồng Xuân Trường, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Finance, Ministry of Education and Training.
