On October 25, in Tan An City, Long An Provincial People’s Committee organized Long An Export promotion and Business matching conference in 2023.
The conference was attended by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade – Phan Thi Thang; Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee – Nguyen Van Ut; Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee – Huynh Van Son; Director of Department of Industry and Trade – Huynh Van Quang Hung; Representatives of leaders of Department of Trade Promotion; Department of Import and Export; Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, consulate representatives of some friendly countries and businesses participating in exporting and importing goods in Long An.
In addition to direct connections, Long An also organized online connections leaders of Vietnamese business offices in the United States, India, China, Japan, and Indonesia.
Speaking at the opening, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee – Nguyen Van Ut said that not only Long An is a highlight in attracting investment but the province also has the top export turnover in the Mekong Delta region. This conference aims to realize the export development goal of the province in particular and the country in general, creating conditions for businesses to have the opportunity to meet and find potential partners, importers, and buyers. Thereby, contributing to enhancing product and brand promotion, trade connections, and market expansion. This is also an opportunity to suggest many directions and solutions for the province and industry associations in improving the ability to provide support activities for the business community to restore production and business. Long An is striving to achieve export target of 7.2 billion USD in 2023 and sustainable export development in the following years.
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade – Phan Thi Thang, to solve difficulties for manufacturers and exporters in the context that the consumption market is still difficult due to the slow recovery of domestic and world market demand, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to accompany localities in general and Long An in particular to promote export promotion, trade promotion and trade connection activities to consume the province’s strong products both in domestic and foreign markets.
With the policy of diversifying consumption forms, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has directed units under the Ministry to cooperate closely with relevant agencies, organizations and businesses, expanding both traditional and modern distribution channels, focusing on exploiting online channels and e-commerce for Vietnamese goods in domestic and international markets.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also actively promotes and diversifies export markets for Vietnamese products with the drastic participation of the Vietnamese trade agency system in all regions of the world.
Long An is the first province in the Mekong Delta to have the Provincial Master Plan approved for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. In the first 9 months of 2023, Long An attracted 82 FDI projects with investment capital of 543 million USD. To date, there are 1,215 FDI projects with investment capital of 10.5 billion USD.
Currently, Long An is not only a bright spot in attracting investment but also the province with the top export turnover in the Mekong Delta, ranking 13/63 provinces and cities nationwide. The whole province has over 900 export and import enterprises. Products and goods of Long An province provide stable supply to export markets, with more than 110 countries and territories around the world. Among them, there are many markets with high requirements for product quality: US, Japan, Korea, EU, etc.
However, 2023 is a difficult year for all sectors of the economy, including domestic trade and export activities. The province’s export turnover in 9 months decreased by 2.16% over the same period (5.4 billion USD, the whole country decreased by 8.2%), imports decreased by 28% (2.9 billion USD, the whole country decreased by 13.8 %).
At the conference, delegates were informed about the export picture in 2023, opportunities and challenges for export in the coming time; export potential through cross-border e-commerce; the needs, solutions, recommendations for developing the dragon fruit, banana markets; advantages, prospects and proposals for promoting Long An province; multi-purpose logistics and seaport solutions; financial solutions to support exports; directions for Vietnamese businesses exporting through the AEON system; strategies to expand investment and support Vietnamese businesses participating in the supply chain; largest retail distribution system in West Asia; Introducing the Circle K – a convenience store chain in Vietnam.
As one of the three entities that signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Industry and Trade at the conference on researching and implementing projects in Long An province to boost trade and connect the province’s goods consumption with the distribution systems of businesses, Mr. Tran Dinh Toan, Deputy CEO of OSB Technology Investment JSC, an authorized agent of Alibaba.com since 2009, stated that Long An possesses a distinct strength in agricultural products. This sector remains robust despite the impact on certain export items during the translation period. Alibaba evaluates Long An’s products as highly promising, marking a significant strength for Vietnam.
He also added that Alibaba.com supports businesses by implementing specific programs, selecting representative units in Long An to aid companies with a strong and comprehensive foundation. This assistance includes training, strategic consulting, enhancing businesses’ awareness on the e-commerce platform, facilitating connections among businesses on Alibaba, and efficiently utilizing the platform’s channels to optimize activities. This helps businesses access foreign markets effectively.
Mr. Toan emphasized that exporting companies need to grasp trends, such as the green trend focusing on safe products, prevalent worldwide. Businesses must adapt promptly to these trends. Additionally, understanding the shift from raw exports to processed products is crucial. Businesses should produce competitively priced items that meet market demands.
In addition, Long An Tourism Association and Foodnamoo Vietnam (Korea) also signed a memorandum of understanding on tourism development cooperation./.
